Knowledge base
Curtain tapes can be divided into a few groups.
The first one is based on used fabric:
- White tape.
- See-through tape with a string.
- See-through tape with white braid holding the string.
- See-through with see-through string.
SMOCK PLEATS
PENCIL PLEAT
ONE PLEAT, TWO PLEAT, THREE PLEAT
“V” SHAPED PLEAT
WAVE
STIFFENING TAPES
SLIDE ON TAPES
BLIND TAPES
The third one is based on the width of the tape:
- Narrow: 2-5 cm (1-2 inch)
- Wide: over 2 inch (5 cm and more)
The fourth one is based on the pleat ratio:
- 1:2, 1:3 etc., e.g., for 1 meter of curtain in pleat ratio 1:2 we need 2 meters of fabric
What is stronger? Some people believe that bistro tape is stronger and lasts longer. In fact, it is the vein that it more resistant to long time wear, while bistro tapes become softer and lose their structure, especially after several washes.
- How to choose the correct width of the tape? Narrow tapes are recommended for light and short curtains and nets, such as café curtains. 2 inch wide tape is a standard tape for all sort of regular curtains. Tapes 3 inches and more are for high ceilings or heavy curtains, or blackouts.
- How to sew in a tape correctly? Tapes up to 2 inches wide we can simply stich in two places, top and bottom of the tape. When it comes to wider tapes, it is recommended to saw them in under each string. This will ensure even pleats. The exception is a tape with a tunnel for a curtain rod, those need to be sew in at the top and the bottom to make sure the tunnel and the strings are now saw in.
- How to correctly insert safety pins? It’s recommended to insert safety pins in both pockets at the same time, where the pleats meet. This will ensure the pleats will remain in the desired place keeping the same gaps in between.
Curtain tapes have been an integral part of all sort of curtains. Although almost invisible, they play a key role in displaying the beauty of the fabric in the windows. Thanks to correctly selected curtain tapes, window decorations take on the appropriate shape, style and character, and help to bring up patterns. They arrange fabric in elegant waves, collect it in dense draperies, arrange it in stylish pleats or form it into popular roller blinds. Even seemingly less interesting fabric can be brought to life thanks to the use of a decorative, unconventional type of tape and turn it into an interesting decorative accent. It was not always the case. Our grandmothers and mother still remember the endless hours of arranging the folds of the fabric by hand, which led to creating first basic curtain tapes that helped with the process.
Our regular presence at international exhibitions and constant cooperation with decorated helps us to instantly react to market expectations. Our new products meet latest trends and anticipate the needs of both designers and fabric suppliers. As an example, one of our recently introduced modes is the so-called multifunctional tape that folds fabric in four different ways. Catalogue number 13.85.000.1 and 13.85.000.2. This curtain tape has become very popular solution for various window styles, from raw industrial or loft tyle, through traditional home décor, to hotel decorations. Thanks to the system that connects the tape with the appropriate slides inserted into curtain rods, the assembly and disassembly of the curtain is extremely quick.
In recent years we have notices a changing trend in the European market regarding the way fabrics are gathered in so-called waves. There are many ways too arrange fabric in such way. One of the most popular one is a tape with hot-melt adhesive helping to install eyelets helping to thread the curtain onto a rod. There is also a Wave type tape allowing to hang a curtain on a profile rod using various types of slides. There are also noticeable changes among manufacturers of curtains and net curtains replacing previously used tapes with wider one, although of the identical gather, as they tend to better expose patterns, especially of thicker fabrics. Interestingly, the latest trend in HoReCa is to replace 1:2 ratio creasing to 1:1.5, which reduces the use of the fabric.
Curtain tapes allow us to bring out the beauty of fabrics and dress them in the classic or modern trends with one goal in mind, to make sure that everyone feels special in their interior.

Tapes
Lodz – The textile capital of Poland in the heart of the country.
Company is the largest producer of curtain tapes in Poland. Our offer includes over 100 types of tapes with various types of gathering, made of the best certified polyester yarns. We produce white bistor tapes, partially or fully transparent tapes from monofilament yarn with various types of string.
Curtain tapes are divided into several groups.
The first division – according to the type of fabric: white, transparent tape with a white string, transparent with a white braid with a white string, transparent with a transparent string.
The second division – due to the type of gathering: dragon, pencil, pleats (1,2,3,4), “V” tapes, waves – waves, stiffening tapes, tapes for threading on the curtain rod and roller blind tapes.
The third division – due to the width: Narrow tapes: 2-5cm; Wide tapes: 6-10cm.
The fourth division – due to the percentage of wrinkling: 1:1.5; 1:1.7; 1:2; 1:3; etc. (example: to get 1m of a ready-made curtain gathered in a 1:2 ratio, we need 2m of fabric).
Who’s stronger? There is a belief that white (bistor) tapes are the strongest and most durable, which is not true, because after prolonged use and frequent washing, it can soften. It is the line that is definitely more durable and stronger material and does not change its structure even after many washing cycles.
How to choose the right tape width? Narrow tapes – 2cm-4cm we suggest to use for light, short curtains or the so-called “envy”; 5 cm tape is considered a universal width tape and can be used both for curtains and lighter curtains; We recommend wider tapes: 7cm – 15cm for decoration in higher rooms, for heavy curtains and recently very fashionable blackouts.
How to sew the tape correctly? The rule is simple: tapes up to 5cm wide can be sewn with two stitches – up/down, it will be enough, while tapes wider: 7-15cm with at least 3 strings or more – we recommend sewing under each string. This will ensure correct creasing and the desired result when sewn into the fabric. The exception is the tape with additional pockets for the curtain rod. Here, in order not to sew up the “mustache” (pocket for the curtain rod), we sew only two seams: top – bottom.
How to properly attach safety pins? We recommend putting safety pins in two pockets at the same time, at the junction of the overlaps. This will ensure the stability of the obtained wrinkling effect and we will be sure that the folds will not move apart, keeping the desired pattern unchanged.
